Since our inception, AlmaLinux OS has been an exact duplicate of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. With RedHat’s shift away from sharing the full building blocks on git.centos.org, the AlmaLinux team has been hard at work to define a new, reliable path forward. Come hear about what we’ve been doing since June, and what we’re planning for the future.
Speaker: Krista Burdine, Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation
Topic: Rocky Linux: How it Started, and How it’s Going
Presentation Abstract: Change is a natural part of life. Rocky Linux arrived on the open source scene during a time of change in the Enterprise Linux ecosystem, with the goal of providing stability and longevity to affected parts of the community.
The ecosystem continues to evolve, but what hasn’t changed is Rocky’s commitment to a rock-solid Enterprise Linux that is accessible to the community.
What’s next for Rocky Linux? The future is bright.
The session will include time for Q&A. Schedule permitting, additional members of Rocky Linux leadership may be available via live audio and/or video feed.
Biography: Krista Burdine found open source documentation as a way to practice technical writing, and stayed for the community. Today she volunteers for the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation as community manager, creating opportunities for engagement within the Rocky Linux community.
Topic: Intro to Coder
Speaker: Tim Quinlan, Coder.com
So you’ve moved all of your test and prod to the cloud? Awesome! What about dev?
Presentation Abstract: Refactor your development environments for the cloud age with Coder. Say hello to accelerated, repeatable and secure builds, tests and analyses in the cloud. Attendees will learn how to use Coder’s open source software to deploy development environments and onboard developers in seconds. All demo material will be available so attendees can start practicing their new skills right away.
Topic: TrueNAS SCALE – When TrueNAS Finally Swiped Right on Linux
Speaker: Josh Smith, iXsystems
Presentation Abstract: What made TrueNAS swipe right on Linux? The introduction of Linux-based TrueNAS SCALE was a highly requested and long awaited moment for the community. TrueNAS SCALE redefines your traditional NAS, bringing more capabilities to your storage infrastructure. In this presentation you will be introduced to TrueNAS SCALE and explore the benefits and technical considerations behind why, after years of BSD-based development, TrueNAS has finally embraced Linux.
Biography: Joshua Smith is an Open Source Advocate with over 15 years of commitment to the community. His expertise spans various influential projects, including FreeBSD, PC-BSD, TrueOS, FreeNAS, and TrueNAS, where he’s made substantial contributions in programming, web design, documentation, and marketing.
With a 12-year association with iXsystems, Josh has left an indelible mark on the organization. Five years as an Open Source and documentation developer laid the foundation for his technical abilities and community-centric mindset. This foundation transitioned into seven years as a Marketing and Community Manager, where he bridged his technical expertise with the ability to foster thriving relationships within the Open Source ecosystem.
Title: Flexflow: Unveiling the Optimal Parallel Strategy for your LLMs
Speaker: Liang Yan
Abstract: In the current era of Large Language Models (LLMs), training large-scale models has become commonplace. However, the real challenge lies in efficiently dividing the training task across your GPU cluster with an optimal parallel strategy.
To address the challenge, we introduce Flexflow, an innovative framework designed to automatically discover the most effective parallelization strategy.
We will provide a live demo using the Alexnet model, showing how Flexflow operates as a distributed machine learning system.
Moreover, we will conduct a comparison of Flexflow with other distributed machine learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, to take a better look at the prevailing trends in the industry today.
Biography: Liang Yan is a senior software engineer at DigitalOcean, specializing in heterogeneous architecture acceleration and distributed machine learning systems for the cloud. He collaborates closely with upstream communities and leading vendors like NVIDIA and AMD, delivering solutions to the inside team. He also has had a great passion for open source and Linux for years. Liang has delivered insightful presentations at prestigious conferences, including OLF 2022, NVIDIA GTC 2021, and SELF 2022, establishing himself as an expert in the field.
